Ben Lovell took up the electric bass in high school and the double bass in college. He studied the classical method with teachers Leslie “Tiny” Martin of the Boston Symphony, Dan Hall and George Rubino of the Portland Symphony, and studied jazz bass with Marshall Wood at the Berkeley College of Music. Upon graduation from college, Ben joined the bass section in the Portland Symphony and performed with them for four years.
He has played with a number of jazz bands in the seacoast area, including Straight No Chaser, Paradise Cafe, the Dave Seiler quartet, the Ray DeMarco quartet, the Carl Pehrsson trio, the New Legacy Swing Band, the Chris Humphrey quartet, the Paul Combs Pocket Big Band, as well as duos with Kent Allen, Paul Heckle, John Fransosa, and Rob Spaulding.
Most recently, Ben joined the Bucket List Band, so he won't be performing with us. However, he will show up in the recording studio with us very soon.
